Full disclosure, Nate is our eldest son and this is the second major renovation he has done for us, this time in our forever home in Augusta.

The house we bought was a very small brown brick ‘original’ from 1976, so it was very dated and not big enough. The block faces east across the larger Flinders Bay, so one of the first things we enjoyed about the Forest to Coast Homes approach was the pre-construction (PAC) process.

The PAC process allowed us to discuss what we wanted in the reno and make adjustments to the design plans based on their advice and costings (and of course, what we could afford). Without their advice and ideas, I doubt we would have made the right choices. For example, best placement of windows for the views, moving the kitchen to a different space in the living area, raising the height of the ceiling and adding skylights to give the living area a wonderful light and spacious feel. With the deck, we aligned the height and width with the new front living area, adding to that big sense of space and accentuating the views, while also creating a second living space. We also extended the bathroom and laundry, to give us more storage and space. Sounds simple, but their design experience made all the difference.

After the PAC process, we had a fully costed contract with clear delineation of when payments were due alongside completion of the stages of the build.

The other thing we really liked was the regular walk-throughs at key moments. This was so we could see the progress, but also to make final decisions about things like placement of lights, switches, power points, TV etc.

Importantly, Nate and Kelly were great with communicating the progress of the build and consulting with us if needed. The workmanship is of a high standard and together they run a tight ship, with good relationships with the local trades and suppliers.

Nate and Kelly fully understand how personal and significant it is when they take on your build and they get great pleasure in seeing how much joy you get at the final reveal! They love seeing people getting set up to enjoy life and living in the region. That’s definitely what they have done for us, and we love them for it!
